Color Club Uptown Girl

Today I have Color Club Uptown Girl from their Rebel Debutante collection. Uptown Girl is a stunning dusty mauve, purple creme. I'm so glad I finally got around to trying this!

I used a base coat of Revlon Calcium Gel Nail Hardener. I followed with two thin coats of Uptown Girl. Thankfully, this polish actually got along with my base coat! Application was very smooth and easy. I finished it off with a top coat of Sally Hansen Mega Shine top coat.

So here are the pretty pictures :)

Then these ones in natural light.

Just as gorgeous in the shade :)

The finish on this one is gorgeous! I'm a sucker for these dusty cremes :) This is one gorgeous colour and I think it actually suits my skin tone - although it kind of makes my hand look like one of those fake practise hands! A friend of mine thought I had fake nails on hehe:)

Haze Glaze - Texas Walrus

Hello~

I've got another Haze Glaze polish to show you. This one is called Texas Walrus. This is  a new polish that has not been released yet, but if a lot of people are loving, it Hazel (the creator of Haze Glaze) will certainly start selling it.

This polish is a dark gray jelly full of glitters. They are gold, green, blue, and silver and are of different shapes! The polish can either be worn on its own with 3 coats or layered over a base color. I will show you both possibilities.

First I tried it on its own. 3 coats were necessary to reach full opacity.

3 coats of Haze Glaze Texas Walrus

Can you see this strange shape glitter on my ring finger (1st from the left)? :D

Then, I layered it over Rivka Jenny, wich is a gorgeous charocoal holo I got from my swap with Rafa from Nail Ink. This polish is incredibly gorgeous and I'll show it in more details in a future post :D
For this mani, I used 1 coat of Haze Glaze Texas Walrus over 2 coats of Rivka Jenny.

1 coat of Haze Glaze Texas Walrus over 2 coats of Rivka Jenny.

Bottle shot.
I got the idea of super close bottle shots from Stefels! :D

Final verdict: A gray jelly full of gorgeous glitters!! Yay~ This polish is really pretty! I love the different shapes of the glitters: you've got hexagons, diamonds, a some hexagons that have been cut in a strange shapes (see for example the 1st and 2nd pictures). The colors go well together and the base color is also really pretty. You can wear it on its own or layered. It dries with a matte finish. So a top coat is required. The glitters tend to quicky settle at the bottom of the bottle so you have to put the bottle upside down while you prep your nails to be able to have a good repartition of the glitters. Also shake it well. I personally prefer it layered. It's more easy to achieve this look and it looks better in my opinion. It think the combo with Rivka Jenny is a killer combo. What do you think?

essence TE Rebels: swatches and review

Hello!

I have another Trend Edition from essence to show you today! It's the TE called Rebels that is  in stores in April and May 2012.

This collection is made of 4 semi-matte nail polishes with a "latex effect" and 1 top coat.

I used 2 coats of polish for every shade except for 04 rebelizer for which I used 3 coats. Of course, I didn't use any top coat.
l-r: 01 mauve like a rockstar, 02 rebel delight, 03 peach punk and 04 rebelizer.

l-r: 01 mauve like a rockstar, 02 rebel delight, 03 peach punk and 04 rebelizer.

The first one is called 01 mauve like a rockstar. It's a dusty light chocolate brown with some purple in it. The color must be in fact a mixture of brown and purple. As you can see on the picture, it has a semi-matte finish. The overall look is matte but there is a shimmer/sparkles in the polish that prevents it from looking complete flat and matte.

Next one is 02 rebel delight. Again, it's a semi-matte polish. The color is a lighter brown than 01 mauve like a rockstar, more of a nude color. I first thought it would be close in terms of color to OPI Did you ear' About Van Gogh? but it's darker and warmer.

Next is 03 peach punk. It's a brigh coral shade with lots of orange in it. It also have lots of sparkles in it and dries to a semi-matte finish.

4 rebelizer is a toxic lime polish. The shimmer in this one is the most prononced from the 4 polishes. It's a green shimmer. It's really pretty. As its fellows, it dries to a semi-matte finish.

Finally, there is a rock top coat called 01 punk royal that is part of this collection. It's a rock coat polish, which means it gives a smokey finish to your base coat polish. Basically it's a very sheer black jelly that darkens your base color. essence and Catrice have really been into this type of top coat recently. Catrice just released No Smoke Without Fire as part of its Million styles collection. You can see it here. And essence released such a rock top coat back in October 2011 as part of its Re-mix your style TE. You can see swatches here. The particularity of 01 punk royal is that is also contains black glitters, medium black hex glitters! Here I used one coat of 01 punk royal over each color.

Final verdict: I really enjoy the 4 semi-matte polishes. For the moment, I've only worn 01 mauve like a rockstar as a full mani but I loved it so I think I'll wear it again. As I didn't have any nude semi-matte finish, I'm very pleased with 02 rebel delight as well.  I can't think of another nude matte polish...so it's a really unique polish!! And I must admit I wanted a toxic lime polish so I'm glad with 04 rebelizer! The only shade I like less is the peach one, 03 peach punk, because peach colors don't look the best with my skin tone, otherwise it's a nice polish. Application was easy, I used 2 coats for all except for 04 rebelizer. I used 3 coats for this polish. This polish was also a bit more difficult to work with but nothing unmanageable. I don't have many matte or semi-matte polish so I'm glad with this collection. I know some people don't like semi-matte polish because they are in between matte and creme polish. Personnally, I prefer semi-matte to matte polishes because fully matte polishes can look a bit flat and dull...So I'm super happy with these essence polishes.

However, the rock top coat is horrible. I'm sorry to say that but application was a nightmare! The polish is thick, goopy, and very difficult to work with. It's nearly impossible to polish an even coat. As it's a sheer black polish, if you can't use even coat, you will see it immediately. The glitters were also a bit difficult to pick out of the bottles. So I don't think I will use this polish again...or pehaps I'll fish for the glitters and apply just the glitters on the nails...That's too bad because the idea is so great! So essence, please fix this formulation issue and give us a great black glitter polish, please!
If you're looking for a nice smokey top coat, go for the Catrice one (No Smoke Without Fire) because it's great. Application of it is really easy and perfect! :D

Thanks for watching and reading and have a nice weekend!

Summer Dotting!

I finally got around to trying one of the many, many, many bookmarked nail designs that I wanted to attempt. First up, I wanted to try this dotting design from Nail Polish Wars. I was using my previous manicure for my base colour and chose corresponding summery colours.

I used the largest of my five dotting tool and added drops randomly along one side of each nail in China Glaze Poinsettia and China Glaze Peachy Keen. Then I moved down one size in my dotting tools and used China Glaze Happy Go Lucky, again placing random dots along the same side. Again, I moved down another size in my dotting tools and added dots with the others in China Glaze Oh How Street It Is and Color Club I Always Get My Mandarin. Lastly, I used China Glaze Lemon Fizz using a smaller dotting tool again. Then I sealed it off with Sally Hansen Mega Shine.

Unfortunately, I only have photos in artificial light because it was raining the next few days when I was wearing this :(

I absolutely love how this turned out! I was a bit worried when I started because Poinsettia and How Street It Is didn't really show up extremely well again Style Wars but I think it worked out well. I decided to overlap each dot and I like how it worked. I would definitely try this again and would like to try this without overlapping the dots to see how it turns out!

Well I'm off to see the Avengers! Oh and if you could let me know if the word verification is off now? I tried to remove it but I'm not sure if it worked. Thanks!

“Coolibri” by CATRICE will be available in stores in June and July 2012.

My thoughts:
  • Golden Glow Eye Liner - Oh my! we could recreate Cinna's look from the Hunger Games with it! I don't know if you have seen this movie but, in contrast to the crazy make-up of the people from the Capitol, Cinna is wearing only a line a gold eye liner. I think this Catrice eye liner seems perfect to recreate his look :D
  • Nectar Glosses - Catrice glosses are among the best on the market in my opinion. The first gloss that I really enjoyed wearing because it is super moisturizing and not sticky, is a gloss from their Lip Appeal line. So if you have the opportunity to grab some Catrice glosses, don't hesitate! To come back to these Nectar Glosses, I really like the packaging. It reminds me of Lancôme products! I'm pretty sure I will buy some of them! I'm curious to see how the blue one look like in real life! Maybe it will help your teeth look whiter, you know if you have some blue in a lip stick/gloss it makes your teeth look whiter....so I'm really curious about this one!
  • Colour Refreshing Lip Balm - it reminds me of Dior Addict Lip Glow, which I really like by the way. It seems to be the same concept.
  • Ultimate Nail Lacquers - they seem fun and full of colors!
  • It's a super nice collection I'm looking forward to see in real life!
And here is the official video preview for this new collection.

China Glaze Style Wars

Continuing my attempt to pretend it's Autumn I decided to go with an orange and somehow ended up with China Glaze Style Wars from the Kicks Collection. Style Wars is a vibrant orange jelly with a reddish tint to it.

A base coat of Revlon Calcium Gel Nail Hardener to start me off (why do I keep using this??). When I was applying my first coat of Style Wars all I kept thinking of was orange cordial because it was so thin and runny O_o. I followed it up with another two coats to try and get it as opaque as possible. I found the first coat of polish was the hardest to apply because it was so this so I had to paint slowly to control the brush and therefore the polish.

Now I tend to watch a movie while I paint my nails so I have a habit of paint a few nails and then pausing to watch the screen. But with this polish I discovered THIS IS A BAD IDEA!! I did my right hand and then moved onto my left but got distracted by the movie. Then when I got back to doing my left hand I discovered that the polish on my thumb on my right hand had pooled down the side of my nail because I had been holding it at an angle >.< I was one unhappy camper! So I learnt to paint my nails quickly and then lay them flat and keep them there!

After applying my final coat and leaving my hands nice and flat to dry I applied a coat of Sally Hansen Mega Shine for my top coat. Luckily since it is a jelly the mess I made when applying my first coat was easy to remove when cleaning up my manicure.

And pictures!

I'm sitting here looking at my nails in the artificial light and they're not this bright!

China Glaze Style Wars in Natural Light
China Glaze Style Wars in Natural Light
This is one elusive colour to capture! It shifts from a bright candy orange to a bright reddish orange depending on the sunlight.

China Glaze Style Wars in the Shade
Glorious jelly goodness!!! Lol! I really love this colour. I actually didn't realise it was a jelly when I bought it so I was quite surprised when I applied my first coat. As with most jellies there is still a VNL which I usually prefer not to have but I couldn't be bothered doing a fourth coat so late at night. Ooohhh I definitely see a jelly sandwich in my future :)
