Halloween Nails

Hello!

I have some Halloween nail designs to share with you today!!

I played a little with my new glow-in-the dark polish I got from Born Pretty.  Its complete name is Fluorescent Neon Luminous Nail Art Polish varnish Glow in Dark #12. I used 3 coats that I layered over a white base color. The polish is really thin and not so pigmented. The best is to layer it over white and use 3-4 coats to get enough opacity. Here I didn't use any top coat. It dries to a satin-matte finish.

Then I added some silver water decals that I also got from Born Pretty. The water decals are really easy to use. You can see here a video that explains how to apply water decals.

I had so much fun with this glow-in-the-dark polish that I also tried to use OPI Black Shatter on top!

Below is a super blurry picture but I think the effect looks cool, almost like if it was a marble lol  This polish does glow in the dark quite well but I must say that my camera makes the nails and the bottle look more glowy than it is in real life in this picture!

 

I tried Black Shatter on top of this pink manicure because I saw this on Demelza's word and I liked how it turned out.

Final verdict: I am super happy with this glow-in-the-dark polish! It's just so fun! The formula was not the best but still, it was OK. The glow-in-the-dark effect is quite strong after you've charged your nails under a light source. I am not sure how long it lasts, at least 10 minutes (I didn't try longer). It's a bit funny because the bottle glows pink but the nails a whitish blue (not as blue as the pictures show here). Maybe if you layer the pink over another color, it will glow in another color. I've got to try that!

I also love the decals because you can, in no time, create funny manicures. I also like there are so many water decals to chose from!

OPI Black spotted over neon

I have a fun combination to share with you. I wore it a few weeks ago but couldn't find the time to post it. I bought the OPI neon mini set called "outrageous neon". This set contains 4 neon polishes in yellow (Ridiculously Yellow), orange (Formidably Orange), pink (Riotously Pink), and purple (Seriously Purple) plus a white base and a top coat.

 

I wore Ridiculously Yellow for 2 days on its own and I enjoyed it a lot, which seems quite incredible for me because I usually don't wear such eye-catchy polishes! And then I added one coat of OPI Black Spotted on top and wore it for a few more days like that :D

 

 

I will do a full post about the OPI neon polishes when I have time. In summary, you have to apply first a white base polish. I didn't use the white that comes in the mini OPI set because I think it's difficult to apply. The OPI neons are easy to apply, except the purple, which is a bit more difficult to manage. So here, I applied one easy coat of Ridiculously Yellow over a white base and then added a coat of Black Spotted. You can see more details about Black Spotted here.

 

I am super happy with this yellow neon! I like it a lot and it's such an unsual color for me! I had a  lot of remarks (nice remarks :D ) when I wore it! and I think Black Spotted looks great over it!

SNB Graffiti Nails

I did this manicure as part of the Sunday Nail Battle, which is organised by Odile from Odile Sacoche, and Andreia from 10tubes, with also the participation of Pshiiit, whose you must all know!

 

The theme of this week was Graffiti nails and we had to use neon polishes.

So here is what I came up with.

 

 

As we had to use neon polishes, I took out of my draw the mini set of neon polishes that OPI has recently launched. There are 4 colors in it: yellow (Ridiculously Yellow), orange (Formidably Orange), pink (Riotously Pink), and purple (Seriously Purple) plus a white base polish and a clear top coat.

 

For the first manicure I tried, I used the mani I showed you yesterday as a base. You can see it HERE. I wanted to recreate a sort of a wall...

Then I wanted to do a splatter mani with the neon polishes but I didn't have any straw at home. So I dediced to use a pen instead. I had seen someone using it to in nail art. Sorry I don't remember where I saw this so I cannot credit. If someone knows, tell me, please, and I'll add it here.

 

 

 

Here is  a small tutorial to show you how I did it.

 

 

 

 

The second manicure I tried. I first applied a base coat of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls as a white base and then I randomly applied some drops of neon on top to create a pattern. When it was dried, I stamped with Konad special polish in black and image plate m72.

 

 

 

Haha I would never wear such manicures to go out. It's too exuberant for me but it was fun to do as part of the Sunday Nail Battle! :D

Purple Professional

Hello~

I have a new brand that comes directly from Portugal to show you today and it's called "Purple Professional". No no, they don't do only purple polishes, that's just the name of the brand :D

Let's go directly to the pictures and I'll add my thoughts about them afterwards!

All pictures are 2 coats of polish, without top coat!

The first one that I got is number 15. It's a a muted and dirty teal creme polish. It dries to a glossy finish and was super easy to work with.

The second one is number 44 and is a bright, almost neon, pink. It's a bit funny because in the bottle, it looks like a darker berry shade, but once on the nails, it really pops! It's a very cheerful and summery color! It dries to a satin finish. This is probably due to the fact that it's almost a neon. I didn't use any top coat so that you can see the satin/matte finish.

And the last one is number 43, a vibrant coral leaning to the red side of coral. It's also a very pretty color, another way of wearing red polish.

The brush is very nice to use. It's a wide, thick brush. Each bottle contains 10 mL of polish.

I was really curious to try this brand as I haven't heard much about it. I've just heard of it from Betty who blog at Betty Nails and she was saying some great things about it.

This brand was a really nice surprise because the quality of the polishes is great. They are 3 Free, easy to apply, not streaky at all and have a good pigmentation. I used 2 coats here for all of them and didn't apply a top coat. I am really happy with the dusty teal because I don't have such polishes in my stash and I love the color. It might be close to OPI Thanks a Windmillion but I don't have it so I cannot compare them. The bright pink is so cheerful and easy to apply, I am pretty sure I'll wear it a lot!
If you have the opportunity to try this brand, don't hesitate because I'm sure you will love it! Their formula (at least the 3 polishes I tried) are just so perfect!

Born Pretty Purple Neon

Do you like neon polishes for summer?

I must admit I didn't have any neons before I got this nice purple neon from Born Pretty. I've always wanted to try neons (especially since a lot of brands are lauching neons this year) but I was scared it would look too bright on me. I'm rather on the classical side with my overall look. So when Born Pretty offered me to try one of their products, I directly went to the neon polishes section because it was a great opporunity to try one of them!

The complete name of this polish is "Glow in UV/ LED Light Fluorescent Neon Nail Art Polish #02" and the brand is CH Nail.

Final verdict:  It's not a real neon but it's a very nice bright purple polish. I used 2 coats here over a normal base coat. I didn't apply a white base coat before applying it because I wanted to see how it looked on its own. However, I think it will look brighter if you apply a white base coat first. This polish is a bit on the thick side. The first coat was a bit patchy but the second coat smoothed everything out. So it was alright. On the nails, it looks more fuchsia than in the bottle. In the above pictures I used a top coat because it dries a bit matte. I didn't have the opportunity to try it under UV & LED lights but it's supposed to glow under such lightening. Finally, I think it's a very nice polish and I'm glad I got to try it!

Candy Mani (part 3)

Hi there~

Yay, another Candy Mani! I'm really addicted to this kind of mani. It's so juicy and summery looking.
For an explanation on what is a Candy Mani and more info on how to do one, please go here.

2 coats of Haute as Hello (Essie) + 2 coats of Sparkle-icious (OPI) + 

index and middle finger: Guy Meets Gal-veston (OPI), 1 coat

ring finger and pinkie: In The Spot-Light Pink (OPI), 1 coat

So for the base, I used Essie Haute as Hello (Summer 2010). It's a bright coral/peachy nail polish with a neon finish. It dries matte as most neons :p I'm not a neon sucker that's why I decided to do a cany mani with it in order to hide the neon finish under a juicy and glossy jelly. It gave brightness and a summery look to the nails but allowed me to circumvent the inconvenient of the too flashy neon finish. The color itself is really pretty and like it very much.

The application of Haute as Hello was a bit tricky because it's on the thick side but if you're careful it's all right. It's very opaque but you will need 2 or 3 coats to have an even finish.

I've got to try other combo (not necessary a cany mani) with Haute as Hello because I really like the color! Maybe with stamping I would like the neon finish better! I've got to try that!

Now let's add some glitters! I used the gorgeous and very festive Sparkle-icious (OPI, Burlesque collection, holliday 2010).It's a mainly a gold glitter polish but it contains also some pink, blue glitters.

Finally I added on my index and middle finger one coat of Guy Meets Gal-veston (OPI, Texas collection, spring-summer 2011) and one coat of In The Spot-Light Pink (OPI, Femme de Cirque collection, spring 2011) on my ring finger and pinkie.

I added the last picture because you can really see the sparkles and glossy look on this blurry picture (esp for the index and middle finger). And it represents everything I like about candy manis. You can see the glitter embedded into the jelly and you've got this sparkle from within impression!

I also really like the look of In The Spot-Light Pink over Sparkle-icious. The glitter has a completely different look under the sorbet/jelly. Even the color of the glitters look different! I find it funny!
