Rainbow Honey: The Yokai collection

I am happy to share some pictures of the new collection by Rainbow Honey, called The Yokai collection. Yokai (妖怪) is a mythic creature in Japanese legends, such as a ghost or a monster or a spirit, and is a perfect name for a Halloween theme collection. This collection is made of 3 polishes, Kawako, Oni, and Kitsune.

Kawako (川子) literally means the kid from the river. It represents a spirit living in the river.
It's a gorgeous dark blue base polish packed with small silver and larger blue flakes. I used 2 coats here and application was rather easy. As for the 2 other polishes from this collection, I used a high shine top coat (essence gel look).

Wow. Seriously, how gorgeous is this polish! I'm not sure if I see it more as a river filled with tiny ghosts (i.e., the silver flakes) or as a sky filled with stars! Either way, it's beautiful and I just love this polish. The bigger iridescent flakes that you can see in the last picture (bottle shot) are not so visible on the nails but they probably give more dimention to the polish.


Next is Oni (鬼). It's probably the most popular Japanese demons. I bet you all have already seen some representations of Oni, most often they are depicted as giants with horns on their foreheard and claws. Their skin is usually either red-brown or blue.
Oni is a breathtaking brown base polish packed with small gold and purple flecks. It seems to have different colors of gold flecks but as it's such a complex polish, it is a bit difficult to actually see everything that is in there. I also have to impression there are red flakes when I look from a certain distance but when I look at closeup shots, I cannot see them. So I don't know if it's the mix of purple and brown that gives some red hues in some lightening or if it really has some red particles...
For the pictures, I used 2 coats.

Oni is one of the most original and complex polish I've ever seen and it's sincerely gorgeous. I cannot stop looking at it! The purple flakes are a very nice add to the polish because they make it more intriguing and beautiful.


And finally is Kitsune (狐). Kitsune means a fox in standard Japanese. However, in Japanese folklore, kitsune are magical spirits that have the shape of a fox but most of the time the soul of a woman. They are said to be mischievous and malicious, and have a lot of magical powers. There are a lot of different kinds of Kitsune. Some are associated with the god Inari (cf the statues you can often see in front of temples), while some are more malicious, have 9 tails and can play tricks to humans. This last version of Kitsune reminds me of the Korean drama, My girlfriend is a Gumiho, as such creatures also appear in the Koran folklore. Gumiho means a nine tailed fox in Korean btw.

Kitsune is a ....kitsune color :p In Japanese, a kitsune color is a light brown, caramel color. There are lots of golden flakes and some bright and darker red glitters. I used 2-3 coats and the polish was a little thicker than the 2 others, but application was still alright. I recommand using thin coats and a high shine top coat because the glitters seems a bit thirsty.

I was first a bit skeptical about this polish when I first see it because I was not sure the color would look good with my skintone but I completely changed my mind once it was on my nails! I think it looks really pretty and that it does look like a kitsune, mysterious and attractive! And maybe the red glitters are a reference to our well-known red foxes! Oh, don't use too thick coats for this polish otherwise it will look a bit uneven. However, if you use thin coats, you'll get a very neat result!

In conclusion, I think it's a very nice collection with an interesting background, filled with legends and captivating stories! The 3 of them are very original and unique and I'm pretty sure they'll soon become mythic polishes in the polish world!

OPI Black spotted over neon

I have a fun combination to share with you. I wore it a few weeks ago but couldn't find the time to post it. I bought the OPI neon mini set called "outrageous neon". This set contains 4 neon polishes in yellow (Ridiculously Yellow), orange (Formidably Orange), pink (Riotously Pink), and purple (Seriously Purple) plus a white base and a top coat.

 

I wore Ridiculously Yellow for 2 days on its own and I enjoyed it a lot, which seems quite incredible for me because I usually don't wear such eye-catchy polishes! And then I added one coat of OPI Black Spotted on top and wore it for a few more days like that :D

 

 

I will do a full post about the OPI neon polishes when I have time. In summary, you have to apply first a white base polish. I didn't use the white that comes in the mini OPI set because I think it's difficult to apply. The OPI neons are easy to apply, except the purple, which is a bit more difficult to manage. So here, I applied one easy coat of Ridiculously Yellow over a white base and then added a coat of Black Spotted. You can see more details about Black Spotted here.

 

I am super happy with this yellow neon! I like it a lot and it's such an unsual color for me! I had a  lot of remarks (nice remarks :D ) when I wore it! and I think Black Spotted looks great over it!

SNB Graffiti Nails

I did this manicure as part of the Sunday Nail Battle, which is organised by Odile from Odile Sacoche, and Andreia from 10tubes, with also the participation of Pshiiit, whose you must all know!

 

The theme of this week was Graffiti nails and we had to use neon polishes.

So here is what I came up with.

 

 

As we had to use neon polishes, I took out of my draw the mini set of neon polishes that OPI has recently launched. There are 4 colors in it: yellow (Ridiculously Yellow), orange (Formidably Orange), pink (Riotously Pink), and purple (Seriously Purple) plus a white base polish and a clear top coat.

 

For the first manicure I tried, I used the mani I showed you yesterday as a base. You can see it HERE. I wanted to recreate a sort of a wall...

Then I wanted to do a splatter mani with the neon polishes but I didn't have any straw at home. So I dediced to use a pen instead. I had seen someone using it to in nail art. Sorry I don't remember where I saw this so I cannot credit. If someone knows, tell me, please, and I'll add it here.

 

 

 

Here is  a small tutorial to show you how I did it.

 

 

 

 

The second manicure I tried. I first applied a base coat of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls as a white base and then I randomly applied some drops of neon on top to create a pattern. When it was dried, I stamped with Konad special polish in black and image plate m72.

 

 

 

Haha I would never wear such manicures to go out. It's too exuberant for me but it was fun to do as part of the Sunday Nail Battle! :D

OPI Germany:The Cremes - swatches

OPI leads us to Germany this fall with its gorgeous Germany collection. This collection was inspired by the classical elegance as well as the avant-gardism of Berlin, the capital city of Germany. I decided to present you first the 6 cremes and then the 6 "rich jewel tones", very deep and shiny hues, that compose this collection.

My Very First Knockwurst ...and what  a magical rosy-nude rendezvous it was!

My Very First Knockwurst is a light dusty nude pink shade. As you will see, all polishes from this collection have an awesome formula! There are some 1 coaters and the others only need 2 coats for a perfect even and opaque look. And application is super easy for all of them. Here I used 2 coats. At the moment, I am really into nude and soft shades and this one is just perfect! I love the muted and slightly dusty look it bears with a hint of grey and mauve in its base.

Berlin There Done That ...A traveling taupe that's seen it all (Yep, that too).

Berlin There Done That is now my new favorite taupe! It's lighter than You Don't Know Jacques (you can see a great comparison here) and seems to have also grey in it. It's a very flattering shade. The formula on this polish was the thinnest of the whole collection, slightly watery but still very easy to apply. I used 2 coats. I thought it might be similar to Essie Chinchilly but no, no dupe. Berlin There Done That has more brown/taupe in its base while Chinchilly is more grey.



Schnapps Out of It! ...Shake off the blues with a shot of fall's must-have mauve!

Schnapps Out of It! is a dusty rosy brick shade with a hint of salmon and a very fine silver shimmer. This shimmer is not very visible unless you stand in full sun or if you hold your hands under a light. Schnapps Out of It! win the prize of the polish with the best application ever! It's a very pigmented polish that requires only one coat (yes, you are looking at only one coat of polish) and thanks to OPI wide brush, I only needed to pass the brush once on each nails. I know some people find this kind of shades a bit boring but I like it a lot because that's a classic shade you can wear for any occasion and you will still look elegant! If you are wondering, it's darker than OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes.



Don't Pretzel My Buttons ...A haute honey-beige that can always make you smile.

Don't Pretzel My Buttons is a nude beige creme with a slightly pink undertone. It reminds me of fundation creme! It applied like butter, is very cremy and opaque. It's almost a one coater but I did 2 here. I have a funny idea of manicure with it!

Don't Talk Bach To Me ...There's nothing mellow about this sassy lime-yellow!

Don't Talk Bach To Me is a the outsider from the 6 shades I presented here. I'm always on the fence with this kind of shades because I tried a lime polish a long time ago and it looked aweful on me. However, I was agreeably surprised to see it looks great on me! It's probably due to the fact that it's rather muted and dusted and not so harsh looking. It's a mustard hue with a very fine silver shimmer. Awww...in fact, I think I'm in love with this polish. I'm pretty sure I will wear it a lot. I used 2 coats.

Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine! ...A bodacious black-olive? We say "Ja! Ja! Ja!".

Nein! Nein! Nein! OK Fine! was presented as the new black of the season. It's in fact a very dark olive hue. Just gorgeous! It's the last polish I swatched for this first session so I kept it for one day on my nails and I must admit I kept looking at it. It's very mysterious and fashionable! Application was also great and I used 2 coats here. In real life, it looks more olive than in these pictures. I should reswatch it in the sun, I guess.

In my next post, I will show you the 6 "rich jewel tones", which have a very deep and glow-from-within look. They are "wilder", if I can say it like that, and completely different from the 6 polishes I showed you here. So I am looking forward to showing them!
