Sprayed manicure

Hello!

I have another fun way to create a splatter manicure to share with you. Instead of using a straw and blow inside it to splatter polish onto your nails (see here), you can use a sample perfume bottle to spray the polish onto your nails!

 

I have to give credits to the Manicurator for the idea of the sprayer. Go and have a look at what she achieved because it's gorgeous! And the idea of using a mini perfume bottle goes to Claudia from Nailing This!

 

 

 

This is my first attempt at a sprayed manicure and I was in a hurry so it's not perfect and I will have to try it again to achieve a better result but I was really excited to share this technique!!

I'll first show you the final result and then explain how I did it.

 

I started with one coat of Essie No Place Like Chrome and then sprayed a pink color (Claire's, no name).

 

Then I sprayed a second color, black (Fatal by essence). The middle finger doesn't look pretty but, as I said, I was in a hurry and didn't have time to redo it (although I should have!).

 

 

What do you think? Would you do something like that?

I personally had a lot of fun doing it and what is nice is that you don't use so much polish if you use a mini sample bottle perfume. And it's quite easy to do!

 

So here is the tuotorial!

 

You will need:

• A base color (Essie No Place Like Chrome)
• A second color to spray on your base color (Claire's, no name)
• Some polish thinner
• A sample perfume bottle (~5 mL)
• And some scotch tape to protect your cuticles and skin while spraying.

Start by painting your nails with your base color. Wait until it's dry. Then, add some drops of pink polish in the sample perfume bottle. You can see on the picture below how much polish I used for 4 nails. I didn't put much in it because I was not sure if it will work. However, I would recommand putting more polish in the bottle because it's a bit annoying if you lack some polish while spraying.

Then I added about 5 drops of polish thinner. The more thinner you add, the easier it will be to have a uniform spray. The generated drops will also get smaller. Before spraying on your nails, try on a paper to see how the spray is. If the polish doesn't come out of the bottle nicely, add some thinner, and try again. When you're happy with the type of obtained spray, you can start spraying on your nails.

 

The amount of polish I used for 4 nails. To this amount, I added about 5 drops of polish thinner.

 

 

 

 

You can start again with another color. As the perfume bottle is tiny, it's easy to clean it up with acetone or ethanol.

OPI Skyfall: swatches

I am glad to share some pictures of the upcoming OPI collection for the holidays. This collection is an homage to James Bond and takes inspiration from the new James Bond movie, Skyfall!

So let's go directly to the swatches.

 

 

 

The first one is called Moonraker. "Drive your fastest car to get this exhilarating metallic grey".

 

 

 

Moonraker is a silver chrome with a lot of blue in it. I didn't use any base coat or top coat here and I used 2 coats of polish. As you can see, it dries to a very smooth finish. At first I thought it would be brushstroky but finally, even though I didn't buff my nails or apply a ridge filling base coat, it looks quite smooth. I was quite surprised by this polish and I think it looks very interesting! It gave my hands a robot look (in a nice way ;D ).

 

I did a comparison with some Essie from their Mirror Metallics.

The Essie are shiner and have a bit more texture (you can see the shimmery particles) than the OPI, which dries smoother. The Essie are more opaque, they only need 1 coat vs 2 coats for the OPI. So they are both very different in terms of color and texture and I like them a lot!

 

 

Second polish from the amazing Skyfall collection is You Only Live Twice. "This rich high-shimmer magenta is a once-in-a-lifetime find."

 

 

 

You Only Live Twice is a gorgeous glass flecked red shimmery polish. I used 2 coats and application was easy. It's the perfect polish for christmas! So cheerful and pretty!

I also did a comparison with other OPI polishes: Let Me Entertain You from the Burlesque collection (Holiday 2010) and Be A Dahlia Won't You from the Nice Stems collection (Summer 2011).

As you can see on the above picture, Let Me Entertain You is more fuchsia, Be A Dahlia Won't You pink, and You Only Live Twice red. I used 2 coats of You Only Live Twice and Let Me Entertain You and 3 coats of Be A Dahlia Won't You.

 

 

And finally is Tomorrow Never Dies. "This eternally intense purple will live forever."

 

 

 

This polish is a nightmare to photograph but I tried my best... It's a very deep purple with strong blue undertones. It looks very smooth and shiny. It doesn't have any shimmer in it but it's rather its smoothness that reflects the light to give a shiny, glossy look. It's a really gorgeous polish. Sometimes it looks more blue, sometimes more purple. I hesitate to call it a duochrome because it's not super noticeable but when I move my nails, sometimes I could swear it's blue and sometimes purple. I've been wearing it since Tuesday (so for 4 days now) and I am still wowing every time I look at my nails.

Application was nice, nothing particular. I used 2 coats.

 

 

This collection is gorgeous. I sincerely love the 3 polishes I could test and am looking forward to seeing the other polishes from this collection!

essence Colour Arts pigments: review

I have some items from the new essence Colour Arts collection to show you! I bought 2 pigment jars, the nail polish base and 2 mixing jars.

So the 2 pigment jars I got are "12 Miss Piggy's Lollipop", a bright iridescent pink and "04 Broadway Starlet", a mix of blue, silver, red, and green glitters.

Instructions written on the clear nail polish are the following:

• Nail polish-base especially for the application of pigments.

• Effect 1: distribute some pigments on paper, collect them with the brush of the nail-base & varnish the nails

• Effect 2: directly dab pigments on the natural nail & seal them with the nail-base.

• Clean the brush with a cloth.

I tried the first method. I put some pigments in the mixing jar and then picked the pigments with the brush of the special polish. The mixing jar is not necessary. You can put the pigments on a paper or plastic sheet. It's even easier that way.

Before dipping the brush into the clear polish, I always wipped it on a paper to avoid putting some pigments in the clear polish.

And here is the result!

Pigment: Miss Piggy's Lollipop.

For this manicure, I applied "3 coats" (I reapplied 3x) of pigments (Miss Piggy's Lollipop). I think the result is rather cool, especially if you want to match your eyeshadow with your nail polish! Miss Piggy's Lollipop is a frosty pink with a flash of blue in it.

I tried the same with the 2nd pigment! I also applied it on bare nails.

Pigment: Broadway Starlet.

Broadway Starlet kinda reminds me of OPI Mad As A Hatter. I don't have Mad As A Hatter so I cannot do the comparison. I don't think they are dupe but quite close, at least close enough to make me happy!

The clear nail polish from this collection seems a little thicker than regular polish but I believe you could do the same with a normal top coat and any other pigments :D

I tried to see if the nail polish base could act as a suspension base. So I put some glitter pigments in it and here is what I obtained.

So yeap, it doesn't work as a supsension base and that's probably why essence recommends to pick the pigments with the nail-base brush and not to mix the polish and pigments together.

Of course, you can mix different pigments to get personal mixes and colors! So I think it's a fun collection! What do you think?

Sunday Nail Battle: Fishtail braid nails

I've got a very easy nail art design to show you today. I guess you've all heard about "fishtail braid nails" now because they are very popular at the moment. I saw a gorgeous manicure Lucy did a few days ago and since then, I've been wanting to try it!

I did this manicure as part of the Sunday Nail Battle, which is organised by Odile from Odile Sacoche, and Andreia from 10tubes, with also the participation of Pshiiit.

I think the design is very pretty and it seemed easy enough for me to try. I found two different ways to achieve this look. With the 1st one, you paint directly the stripes on your nails while with the second technique, you first paint some stripes on a scotch tape and then apply these scotch stripes onto your nails.

I tried the 1st technique (using this tutorial) but miserably failed at it. I didn't like the fact that the final result got quite thick and that I couldn't paint very straight lines. So I took inspiration from the second technique (tutorial HERE) but did it slightly differently.

This picture was taken before top coat. When you apply top coat, it smooths the lines out.

The colors I used for this fishtail braid manicure are all Essie colors: Bikini So Teeny, Mint Candy Apple, and No Place Like Chrome. I first painted all my nails with Bikini So Teeny. I used 2 coats.

Then I painted some squares on a plastic sheet with the 3 different colors, like in the picture below. I let everything dry for one day. Then, I peeled off the squares from the plastic sheet and I cut some stripes with scissors (like the mint stripe you can see on the picture below). To have the same width for all your stripes, you can cut only one long stripe for each color and then divide this stripe into smaller parts.

Here the squares I did are really large. You won't need as much for just an accent nail.

Finally, I added the stripes on my nail to creat a braid pattern.

How do you like it? Have you already tried such design?
I personnally love braided nails as an accent! I will try it tonight again but with different colors :D

Lac Attack - Rydell Forever

Hello!!

I got another gorgeous Lac Attack polish to show. It's Rydell Forever! This polish was inspired by Grease, the musical, in the same way as other polishes from Lac Attack that you can see here. 

Rydell Forever is a red and white glitter inspired by Rydell High's school colors. This polish is jam packed with red and white hexes and bar glitters - perfect for showing off school spirit or your love for Grease.

For this manicure, I layered one coat of Rydell forever over 2 coats of OPI DS Coronation. You can see swatches of DS Coronation here.

Final verdict: Rydell Forever by Lac Attack is a gorgeous glitter polish packed with large red and white hexagonal and bar gliltters. The formula of the polish is nice, the glitters are well suspended in the base and do not sink at the bottom of the bottle and application was easy. I had some of the red bar glitters that curled a little while applying them but I gently pushed them down with an orange stick and they did remain flat afterwards. I wore this manicure for 4 days and I didn't have any of the glitters that curled any more! So eventually that was not a problem. I love how simple yet intersting this polish look and especially love it with OPI DS Coronation.
