Estée Lauder - Pure Red

I have another awesome Estée Lauder polish to show you!

A few days ago, I shared some pictures of Love Bite, a gorgeous red-pink polish that is part of the new Estée Lauder collection, "The Reds". If you missed the post, you can find it HERE. As I previously told you, this new collection is made of 5 polishes with different tones of red. You can read the preview here.

 

Pure Red is the only one from this collection that is not a limited edition. It is also part of the regular Estée Lauder range.

 

 

 

 

Final verdict: Pure Red is a gorgeous red polishes. It's really a "pure" red hue, without any blue or pink in it. It's very bright, vibrant, and eye-catching. As soon as I entered my office on Monday, my colleague noticed my nails and said "wow, your nails look gorgeous!". This will probably looks a bit funny but I'm feeling full of power when I wear this polish. It's interesting how a nail polish can have such importance on a whole look. You look more elegant and feminine when you wear red polishes in my opinion! A polish can completely change your allure!

Similiarly to Love Bite, application was smooth and comfortable thanks to the nice brush and awesome formula. It also dries to a very shiny and glossy finish. The polish has a good pigmentation, it can be opaque in 1 coat. However here I used 2 coats.

It's the third Estée Lauder polish I try and I must say I really love their formula, quality, and range of colors! If you have never tried any Estée Lauder polishes, I suggest you have a closer look at them because they are really wonderful!

YSL Rouge Expressioniste

Hello!!

Today I have one of my biggest crushes to share with you. It's Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Expressioniste, part of the recent YSL Contemporary Amazon collection for fall 2012. This collections bring two new shades: Rouge Expressioniste and Khaki Arty.

 

Rouge Expressioniste is a muted brick red red hue, a tad darker than pure brick red, with slightly brown undertones.

 

 

Final verdict: Rouge Expressioniste by YSL is pure perfection. First, I love the color. It's so classy and appropriate for any occasions and just perfect for fall although I'm pretty sure I will enjoy wearing it all year round! I'm loving creme polishes more and more and it's getting my favorite finish. Secondly, the formula is very nice. It's well pigmented, nearly opaque in one coat although here I used two, and it applies like butter. And thirdly, the bursh is perfect. It's a wide brush that helps you get a clean and easy application. The brush fans out nicely and applies the polish onto the nail with just one or two swipes, depending on the width of your nails. I am absolutely smitten with this polish and now YSL polishes are among my favorites!

OPI Skyfall: swatches

I am glad to share some pictures of the upcoming OPI collection for the holidays. This collection is an homage to James Bond and takes inspiration from the new James Bond movie, Skyfall!

So let's go directly to the swatches.

 

 

 

The first one is called Moonraker. "Drive your fastest car to get this exhilarating metallic grey".

 

 

 

Moonraker is a silver chrome with a lot of blue in it. I didn't use any base coat or top coat here and I used 2 coats of polish. As you can see, it dries to a very smooth finish. At first I thought it would be brushstroky but finally, even though I didn't buff my nails or apply a ridge filling base coat, it looks quite smooth. I was quite surprised by this polish and I think it looks very interesting! It gave my hands a robot look (in a nice way ;D ).

 

I did a comparison with some Essie from their Mirror Metallics.

The Essie are shiner and have a bit more texture (you can see the shimmery particles) than the OPI, which dries smoother. The Essie are more opaque, they only need 1 coat vs 2 coats for the OPI. So they are both very different in terms of color and texture and I like them a lot!

 

 

Second polish from the amazing Skyfall collection is You Only Live Twice. "This rich high-shimmer magenta is a once-in-a-lifetime find."

 

 

 

You Only Live Twice is a gorgeous glass flecked red shimmery polish. I used 2 coats and application was easy. It's the perfect polish for christmas! So cheerful and pretty!

I also did a comparison with other OPI polishes: Let Me Entertain You from the Burlesque collection (Holiday 2010) and Be A Dahlia Won't You from the Nice Stems collection (Summer 2011).

As you can see on the above picture, Let Me Entertain You is more fuchsia, Be A Dahlia Won't You pink, and You Only Live Twice red. I used 2 coats of You Only Live Twice and Let Me Entertain You and 3 coats of Be A Dahlia Won't You.

 

 

And finally is Tomorrow Never Dies. "This eternally intense purple will live forever."

 

 

 

This polish is a nightmare to photograph but I tried my best... It's a very deep purple with strong blue undertones. It looks very smooth and shiny. It doesn't have any shimmer in it but it's rather its smoothness that reflects the light to give a shiny, glossy look. It's a really gorgeous polish. Sometimes it looks more blue, sometimes more purple. I hesitate to call it a duochrome because it's not super noticeable but when I move my nails, sometimes I could swear it's blue and sometimes purple. I've been wearing it since Tuesday (so for 4 days now) and I am still wowing every time I look at my nails.

Application was nice, nothing particular. I used 2 coats.

 

 

This collection is gorgeous. I sincerely love the 3 polishes I could test and am looking forward to seeing the other polishes from this collection!

Shimmer polish (Part 1)

As promised here are my swatches of the gorgeous glitter polishes from the indie brand, Shimer Polish.

I wanted to show you the polishes under different angles so there are a lot of pictures! They are all super shimmery and packed with a lot of glitters! I used only 1 coat of glitter over a base color. If you want more opacity, you will need three coats to get full opactiy.

The first one is called Adrienne. It's made of royal blue, gold, and silver glitters. I could also see some red glitters. I layered it over Lancôme Bleu de Flore.

 

 

 

 

Second one is Erica and it's described as a crystal peridot color. It's a mix of different kinds of green and gold. The larger hexagonal glitters are holographic. I layered it over Catrice Wonderland Green Card.

 

 

 

 

Lorene is a mix of raspberry glitters in a sheer fuchsia base. There are also blue and copper glitters. I layered it over Pupa Strawberry.

 

 

 

Next is Mary. It's a mix of red, silver, and black glitters! The silver glitters are holographic and there are two types of them. Some of them reflect all the colors of the rainbow, while some reflect a purplish blue. The base is slightly red tinted. I layered it over OPI Danke Shiny Red.

 

 

 

Rochelle is a mix of red and gold glitters. I layered it over China Glaze Riveting. By the way, Riveting is gorgeous! I won it in a giveaway held by the lovely Mich from the Polish Well. Thank you again, Mich!

 

 

 

And the last one is Trisha, which is made of orange, gold, blue, and other orange glitters that shift to purple! I have never seen such glitters. They are very interesting! All these glitters are suspended in a clear base. I layered it over Zoya Lana.

 

 

 

 

There were so many pictures in this post that it deserves a little summary, I guess.

 

 

 

The formula of the polishes were great. They are packed with so many glitters that you can get full opacity at 3 coats. The glitters are easy to apply. They kind of remind me of the Burlesque glitters from OPI except they are more complex because you have different sizes of glitters in them.

 

It's difficult to chose a favorite from them because I love them all. Adrienne is just super gorgeous over this dark navy blue. The gold glitters in it look perfect in the mix. I also wowed when I applied Erica because it's super shimmery and the green colors look stunning together! I also love the bigger black hex in Mary and the cool blue-purple holographic glitters. They are very unique. And Rochelle and Trisha are firecly beautiful!


If you like glitters but are afraid of removing them, you can use essence peel off base coat to remove them super easily. See my post here. In this post, I used the peel off base coat, which is part of a limited edition but now this base coat is part of the regular essence range. Some people use PVA glue instead, but I didn't do any research myself to check if it's safe....You can see an example here.
I've also heard Glitter Food from the indie brand Nail Pattern Boldness is an amazing top coat to smooth glitters. I haven't tried it yet but it's on its way to me.
