essence TE Rebels: swatches and review

Hello!

I have another Trend Edition from essence to show you today! It's the TE called Rebels that is  in stores in April and May 2012.

This collection is made of 4 semi-matte nail polishes with a "latex effect" and 1 top coat.

I used 2 coats of polish for every shade except for 04 rebelizer for which I used 3 coats. Of course, I didn't use any top coat.
l-r: 01 mauve like a rockstar, 02 rebel delight, 03 peach punk and 04 rebelizer.

l-r: 01 mauve like a rockstar, 02 rebel delight, 03 peach punk and 04 rebelizer.

The first one is called 01 mauve like a rockstar. It's a dusty light chocolate brown with some purple in it. The color must be in fact a mixture of brown and purple. As you can see on the picture, it has a semi-matte finish. The overall look is matte but there is a shimmer/sparkles in the polish that prevents it from looking complete flat and matte.

Next one is 02 rebel delight. Again, it's a semi-matte polish. The color is a lighter brown than 01 mauve like a rockstar, more of a nude color. I first thought it would be close in terms of color to OPI Did you ear' About Van Gogh? but it's darker and warmer.

Next is 03 peach punk. It's a brigh coral shade with lots of orange in it. It also have lots of sparkles in it and dries to a semi-matte finish.

4 rebelizer is a toxic lime polish. The shimmer in this one is the most prononced from the 4 polishes. It's a green shimmer. It's really pretty. As its fellows, it dries to a semi-matte finish.

Finally, there is a rock top coat called 01 punk royal that is part of this collection. It's a rock coat polish, which means it gives a smokey finish to your base coat polish. Basically it's a very sheer black jelly that darkens your base color. essence and Catrice have really been into this type of top coat recently. Catrice just released No Smoke Without Fire as part of its Million styles collection. You can see it here. And essence released such a rock top coat back in October 2011 as part of its Re-mix your style TE. You can see swatches here. The particularity of 01 punk royal is that is also contains black glitters, medium black hex glitters! Here I used one coat of 01 punk royal over each color.

Final verdict: I really enjoy the 4 semi-matte polishes. For the moment, I've only worn 01 mauve like a rockstar as a full mani but I loved it so I think I'll wear it again. As I didn't have any nude semi-matte finish, I'm very pleased with 02 rebel delight as well.  I can't think of another nude matte polish...so it's a really unique polish!! And I must admit I wanted a toxic lime polish so I'm glad with 04 rebelizer! The only shade I like less is the peach one, 03 peach punk, because peach colors don't look the best with my skin tone, otherwise it's a nice polish. Application was easy, I used 2 coats for all except for 04 rebelizer. I used 3 coats for this polish. This polish was also a bit more difficult to work with but nothing unmanageable. I don't have many matte or semi-matte polish so I'm glad with this collection. I know some people don't like semi-matte polish because they are in between matte and creme polish. Personnally, I prefer semi-matte to matte polishes because fully matte polishes can look a bit flat and dull...So I'm super happy with these essence polishes.

However, the rock top coat is horrible. I'm sorry to say that but application was a nightmare! The polish is thick, goopy, and very difficult to work with. It's nearly impossible to polish an even coat. As it's a sheer black polish, if you can't use even coat, you will see it immediately. The glitters were also a bit difficult to pick out of the bottles. So I don't think I will use this polish again...or pehaps I'll fish for the glitters and apply just the glitters on the nails...That's too bad because the idea is so great! So essence, please fix this formulation issue and give us a great black glitter polish, please!
If you're looking for a nice smokey top coat, go for the Catrice one (No Smoke Without Fire) because it's great. Application of it is really easy and perfect! :D

Thanks for watching and reading and have a nice weekend!

Nicole by OPI It Starts With Me

Choosing yet another pink I chose Nicole by OPI It Starts With Me from their Liquid Metals collection. It Starts With Me is a gorgeous silver-based pink/peached toned foil. I applied one coat of OPI Nail Hardener. Then I used two coats of It Starts With Me and a topcoat of Seche Vite Dry Fast. The application of It Starts With Me was flawless! The brush was unbelievably easy to use and the formula just glided on. This is the first Nicole by OPI nail polish that I have used and let's just say I'm impressed!

These photo's were taken that night in artificial light.

Then the following day I took these photo's in the sunlight. These photo's accurately represent the colour of It Starts With Me.

This colour is simply stunning! It has a silver base packed with pink/peach and a foil finish. The formula is amazing and there are no visible brush-strokes!! My first impression upon applying It Starts With Me was that it was a bronzed rose colour. Whatever it's "true colour" it's beautiful!

Zoya - Tiffany

Hello~

As I broke 2 nails on my swatching hand when I came back from holiday, I will show you pictures I took before........when my nails were all right ;D So I will have to wait a little before trying and showing my new polishes from Korea...saaaaaaad!!

But I have great stuff to show so it's also fun!

My nail of the day will be Tiffany from Zoya Fire & Ice Collection (Winter/Holiday 2010).  Tiffany is a peachy, coppery polish with a gorgeous gold shimmer and a foil finish. The color is a rather neutral color (not too much in your face) but the bright shimmer makes it more special and interesting. I like this kind of shades when you want something subtle yet unique.

Application was super easy, it's not too thick nor too thin. You get easily a smooth and even look.  So the formula of this polish was great. I applied 3 coats.

Tiffany (Zoya), 3 coats, without top coat, with flash. So sparkly!!!!!
Tiffany (Zoya), 2 coats, low sun. Really interesting texture.

Final verdict: I ended up liking this polish a hundred times better than I tought I would. From the swatches and comments I saw I tought it was not that great but OMG I was really impressed by it and it's now among my favorites. I'm glad I ordered it. The color and finish are really interesting and was so easy to apply that I really love it.

Zoya Fire & Ice (Flame) Collection

Hi! I know I haven't post in awhile. I was sick for the past week and I'm finally feeling better. Still coughing and voice is still rasping but other than that I'm good. So forgive me :)

So anyways, today I have Zoya's new Fire & Ice Collection, which recently the collection's name was changed to Flame collection. This collection consists of 6 gorgeous colors with a foil like finish.

All pictures were taken under artificial light.

Tiffany a soft peachy copper shimmer

Gloria is a rosey pink shimmer

Crystal is a turquoise blue with gold flecks

Lisa is a red shimmer with reddish flecks

Sarah a magenta shimmer with red and pink flecks

Valerie is a plum purple with light purple flecks

Overall this collection is stunning. I loved all six shades, but my favorite has to be Crystal. I love how the orangey/gold/copper flecks work with the turquoise. Very unique color. Formula was the typical Zoya formaul, smooth and perfect in every way. All were under two coats.

And that's all I have for today!

Boyfriend Approved Polish

Hi all!

How are you all doing? Today I have a polish for you that even my boyfriend likes (and he dislikes a lot of the polish I wear - don't get me wrong, he thinks it's great I have a hobby lol): OPI Mediterranean Moonlight.

OPI Mediterranean Moonlight, two coats and one coat of Nubar Diamont in daylight. MM (the name is horrible to type!) is some kind of slightly dusty dark peach with very subtle silver shimmer. This picture is taken on the fifth day of wear - I kid you not! This wore like concrete and I only took it off because I wanted a change in color.. But I actually had only one teeny tiny chip on my pinkie nail, that's all! Let's take a closer look at the shimmer - it's a bit shy so don't come too close at once!

Gorgeous right? When the sun hits the nail, the shimmer is more visible. I caught myself staring at my nails, moving them so they would get as much sunlight on them as possible, while I was enjoying the sun on a terrace at the water.. lol.

Application was like a dream. I don't have many OPI's that apply like this one - the polish is just right in structure and application was good. You only need two coats to get an opaque look.. It even dries quickly.

Thanks for stopping by!
