Dior Golden Jungle

Hello!

A crackle polish is making a comeback on my blog! But it's not a standard crackle I'm showing you today, it's a crocodile leather effect polish from Dior. It's called Golden Jungle and it's a duo made of a gold base polish and a khaki crocodile effect top coat. Both bottles hold 10 mL (0.33 FL.OZ) of polish.

This duo is part of Dior Golden Jungle collection for fall 2012.

 

 

 

You can see in the above picture as well as in the following photo the different patterns you can obtain according to the thickness of the coat of crocodile effect top coat you apply. The thiner your apply it, the finer the cracks will get. On the above picture, I applied rather thin coats on all my nails, while on the picture below, I applied thicker coats. Note that thick coats will give you a darker look, while thiner coats will let more of the gold base shine through the khaki top coat. The khaki top coat is actually a jelly and that's why if you apply a thin coat, you will be able to catch a glimpse of your bae color through it.

 

 

You can see the jelly consistency of the crocodile effect top coat in the above pictures.

 

 

And here are some pictures of the gold base (148). By the way, the duo is called "001 Golden Jungle Crocodile leather effect nails - Gold nail lacquer and crocodile effect top coat duo", and the khaki top coat is number 608.

The gold base is a very beautiful sparkly white base gold.

Final verdict: The gold base is sincerely gorgeous. I especially love that there is some white in it. It makes it look softer than a yellow based gold. I am pretty sure I will also wear it alone, without the crocodile top coat. To wear it without the top coat, 2 coats are necessary but if you plan on adding the top coat, one coat is enough. Application was really smooth and easy.

 

For the crocodile effect top coat, I first tried it on a fake nail and failed at getting a pattern. It simply didn't crackle. I am not sure why because the base color was still wet and eventually on my second try it worked nicely and so did it for my other attempts. Note that if you apply it on your one day old manicure for example, the polish won't crackle because it  needs a still slightly wet base to crackle. The crocodile effect takes a couple of minute to achieve so you have to be a bit patient. I was honestly very surprised at how much I love the effect. I'm not a huge fan of crackle polishes but here the pattern is different and the colors look beautiful together. Moreover, if you apply thin coats, the overwhole look will not get as thick as with standard crackle polishes, which is a huge plus for me. I also love the fact that it's a khaki jelly because you can still see the base color through it and it also prevents the heavy look of some crackles.

For all these reasons, I am super happy with this duo and I can see myself wearing it a lot. And bonus: I kept it the whole last week on my nails without chips!

essence Twilight Breaking Dawn: swatches

I am super excited to share some pictures of the new essence trend edition called "Twilight Breaking Dawn part 2"! I don't know if you're a Twilight fan but for me, I wasn't interested in this phenonemon until recently when I was searching for a book to read in the train and came across the first volum of the saga. I wasn't so into it at first but after reading some chapters, I really got interested and that's why I was really excited when I heard essence was launching a Twilight theme collection! At the moment I am reading the last book, I'm nearly at the end, and am looking forward to seeing the last movie!

I bought the 4 polishes from this collection plus the red lipgloss (Renesmee Red), which is fantastic by the way and I might get back to take the blush because it's matte and red and I'd like to use it as an eyeshadow to make a vampire look :D

Let's start with Jacob's Protection. It's a black base polish filled with tones of blue flecks. There are also some other colored flecks. It's a gorgeous polish but unfortunately application was a real pain because the polish is really, really thick. Normally, I don't mind thick polishes but here, it made the application really difficult. I nearly wanted to give up. I added 5 drops of thinner, but it  was still too thick. I will have to try to add more and perhaps I'll enjoy it more this way. Note that the brush is the wide brush similar to the new Catrice brushes and, with a polish with such a consistency, it didn't help in applying a nice and even coat. I used 2 coats.

Alice Had A Vision – Again is the purple sister of Jacob's Protection. The base is a deep and dark purple and it is filled with mainly purple flecks but also green and blue ones. The formula on this one was better, still a bit too thick but manageable. I used 2 coats here and wore it for one week without any chips! So its lasting power is great but its drying time was a bit longer than most polishes.

Edward’s Love is a black base polish filled with tons of silver flecks. Like for the other polishes, there are also some random flecks of different colors. The polish was also a bit too thick, similar to Alice Had A Vision - Again, but manageable. However, the brush was not even and a bit fluffy and it was thus a bit difficult to apply. I used 2 coats.

And the last one is A Piece Of Forever, a very warm and yellow gold. I have absolutely nothing similar in my stash and honestly I purchased it only because it was part of this collection. It's prone to show brush stokes but it's not so dramatic. Once it was on my nails, I was surprised at how much I loved it! The formula was the thinnest of the 4 polishes of this collection and was rather good. I used 2 coats. I didn'tr try it but I've heard from the Parokeets that it works for stamping! Once I have some free time, I'll try that :D

 

 

Final verdict: As I have already mentioned, the polishes look absolutely gorgeous! They fit the Twilight theme very much, they are dark, mysterious and beautiful. A Piece Of Forever is a bit different but it probably symbolizes the bright passion, all sparkly and pretty :D My favorite is Alice Had A Vision -Again! I absolutely love the purple base and all the gorgeous flecks in it. Jacob's Protection is also beautiful and would probably have been my favorite if its formula was better. I was a bit disapointed because of that espcially since normally essence polishes have good formula and are easy to work with.

Plaid nails for essie

I did this "plaid" manicure for a contest Essie Switzerland is organizing on their FB page.

 

For this mani, I used Essie Mint Candy Apple as the main color. For the accent nail, I used OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls for the background and Essie Good as Gold, Essie Mint Candy Apply, and Lancôme Bleu de Flore for the plaid pattern.

To create the pattern, I used the "sticker" method, which I explained in this post. Basically, I painted some squares with the different polishes I would use for the plaid pattern on a plastic folder/plastic ziplock bag, waited until they were dry, peeled them off, and then cut some stripes that I applied on my nail.

I always have some of these squares in different colors painted in advance so that I don't have to wait until they are dry.

 

And finally, I used this tutorial from the Beauty Department to create the plaid pattern.

Hylian Princess

Hello!!

Here is my first Dollish Polish and it's called Hylian Princess. If you're a Nintendo fan, you'll probably know who this polish is refering to! Yeah, it's Princess Zelda! I'm a huge Nintendo fan and Shigeru Miamoto is my god, so imagine how thrilled I was when I heard Dollish Polish was making a Zelda Duo! The other polish from this duo is called The Hero of Time.

I layered 1 coat of Hylian Princess over 2 coats of A-England Iseult. You can see my full review of Iseult here.

Final verdict: Hylian Princess is a clear polish packed with so many gorgeous glitters. There are royal purple, dark purple (rather blurple), gold, and white glitters in different sizes and shapes including hexagonals and square glitters. I really love these colors together and the gold glitters make a very nice addition, and of course they are the colors of Zelda. That's also why I chose a light pink for my base color. It was easy to work with this polish and you can get a good amount of glitters with one coat (that's what I'm wearing here). So this polish is a total winner!!

Best Sence - Glitter polish

Do you like glitters? I do~

I will show you today a Chinese brand that has awesome glitters. The name of the brand is Best Sence.

The one I will show you today is called "Best Sence - Red Small Hexagon & Dot Glitter Nail Polish" with the reference BESE-N331-87.

1 coat of Best Sence 87 over 3 coats of Zoya Sarah.

Final verdict: Best Sence Glitter 87 is a very sheer pink polish (almost clear) packed with lots of red, fuchsia, blue, and gold glitters. The red and fuchsia glitters are large, the blue medium and the gold small (2 sizes of them). The smaller gold glitters seem to be dots when you look at them (by eyes) but with a zoom, you can see they are actually hexagons. I like the mix of colors and sizes. The glitters go well together. Application was perfect! I used here only 1 coat and I didn't have to go fishing for the glitters, they applied nicely on the nails. I'm also impressed with how the glitters are well suspended. They don't settle at the bottom of the  bottle at all. It's a bit fascinating to look at them in the bottle because even if you turn the bottle upside down, the glitters keep their place in the bottle, they keep an equidistance between them. It's funny! So great formula but I'm not sure it's 3 free. I think I will use it again because I just love red glitters and also blue and gold!
